city of cimarron love where you live

May 8, 2023

I have had numerous questions about the highway from the bridge to the water tower. The project is divided into four parts.  The first two have now been completed by APAC.  The 3rd and 4th parts have been scheduled for late summer in or around August.  We continue to stay in touch with the project companies to make sure they are still on schedule.  We are doing everything we can to patch the numerous potholes and cracks that keep appearing.  When all the work is complete Main Street should have new pavement from the bridge to the water tower, resulting in an improved trip across town.

The City Pool has been filled and is ready for opening.  The tentative date is May 20th.  Please check the City website to make sure this is still correct before loading up and heading out, www.cimarronks.org.  You can also like their Facebook page for current information.

The summer recreation program is up and running.  Many teams are having practice and getting ready for their games.  The park staff are getting things ready for a good season.  There will be our traditional kick off celebration for the new season at the shelter house, with hotdogs and all the fixings on May 23rd at 5:30 p.m.  The rain date is May 25, 2023, same time.

Mark your calendar today for July 9th at 6:00 p.m.  Cimarron will be celebrating 145 years since its founding in 1878.  Plans are being finalized for activities in the park.  Lots of games, bouncy houses and fun for the kids plus music and food for all.  A few of the things planned are the dedication of the Leo Leatherwood ball fields, sand volleyball tournament, basketball tournament and a car show.  There will be the local young girls dancing groups and Vendor booths to check out.  Please come and celebrate our great community and historical park that marks the crossing of the Arkansas River from 1822 to 1872. For more information or to be involved, call Erin at 620-855-2507.  Keep your eyes out for the posters which will soon be around.  Make sure you access the most current information on Facebook, the website or the app.

Sincerely,

Gilbert Benton, Mayor
