Rotary Clubs and Rotary International is a group of people who come together to create change in their communities, the world, and themselves by applying Rotary’s four way test in the things they think, say or do. First; is it the truth, second; is it fair to all concerned, third; will it build goodwill and better friendships, and fourth; will it be beneficial to all concerned.
Rotary’s motto is "Service Above Self".
Rotary clubs work to promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, support education, and more. Rotary clubs are open to people of all races, colors, religions, genders, and political preferences and values are based on the principles of service, leadership, diversity, friendship, and integrity.
Rotary has a global network of over 45,000 clubs and 1.2 million members.
Rotary International has been working to eradicate polio for over 35 years, starting in 1979 with vaccinations for 6 million children in the Philippines. Today, Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only countries where polio remains endemic.
Local Cimarron Rotary Club #1579 was chartered on October 20, 1936 and is part of Rotary International District #5680. The local club meets at noon on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at The Shepherds Center Nursing Home in the community room.
Cimarron Rotary currently has 17 members, with many of its members serving the area community well over two and three decades.
Cimarron Rotary, along with the help of local donations, sponsors and hosts the Annual Gray County Fair BBQ. The funds raised during the BBQ help support all Gray County Libraries, Gray County 4H, and CHS Cheerleaders.
In addition to the annual bbq, Cimarron Rotary provides watermelon and volunteers at The Shepherd’s Center Concert on the Lawn each year, and provides water to The Do the Wright Thing baseball tournament and at the Cimarron Homecoming Parade when those events are held.
Cimarron Rotary also supports education by providing dictionaries each year to all Gray County third graders.
