As we begin Welcoming Week, we honor this year’s theme, “Stories We Share: The Courage to Connect,” by celebrating the diverse journeys that bring all of us together in our community. This kickoff day is also Patriots Day, a time to remember, reflect, and reaffirm the values of unity, resilience, and connection that define us.
This year is our very first Welcoming Week in Cimarron and is fully supported by the Mayor’s Proclamation, which reminds us that our community is stronger when we embrace both our similarities and our differences. Throughout the week, neighbors will come together to share food, music, art, conversation, and more, choosing connection, courage, and compassion as we continue building a more inclusive Cimarron.
No matter how long we have called the United States home, each of us carries a family story that extends beyond our borders. Our community is enriched by heritage from every corner of the world. As we continue celebrating America’s 250th anniversary, we highlight the many pathways to freedom and belonging that shape who we are today. Many of our neighbors trace their heritage to Mexico, a nation with its own history of perseverance and independence, and with Mexico’s Independence Day falling during Welcoming Week, we have a meaningful opportunity to honor this shared spirit of liberty. These experiences of striving for freedom connect us across cultures, histories, and generations.
Inside City Hall, we invite everyone to participate in a living display of our community’s heritage. A large world map is available for you to place a pin marking where your family’s story began, whether that is outside the United States or here at home. As more pins are added throughout the week, this collective map will become a visual celebration of the many paths that meet here in Cimarron.
Welcoming Week is a celebration of freedom, connection, and community. Guided by the Mayor’s call to choose welcoming over division, we hope you’ll join us for the events planned throughout the week as we honor our stories, build stronger bonds, and continue shaping a community where everyone belongs.
