Notes from the Mayor
May 29, 2026
Many residents have asked me and the council about the current water situation in
Cimarron, including concerns about water loss and questions regarding water pressure.
As many of you may have seen in the newspaper and on social media, the water tower
recently developed a leak. Repairing the leak has required draining the tower and carefully
managing water use to maintain adequate pressure for residents and for emergency
services. Since the water tower was due for maintenance in the fall, it was decided to go
ahead and complete the requirement at the same time. The entire process has been a
challenge, and at times it has been necessary to release excess water to regulate the
system properly.
The good news is that the work on the tower has only to be inspected. It will then be
sanitized and the crew will begin pumping water into it, a process that will take several
days.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the City crew and office staff for their hard work
during this situation. I also want to express, on behalf of the City Council, our appreciation
to the citizens of Cimarron for their patience, understanding, and continued support. Thank
you.
Gilbert Benton, Mayor
