Building permits
Building permits are required for all new construction, including portable sheds and carports, areas of pavement and fences. Permits are not required for maintenance or replacement of the same dimension. Forms are available at City Hall or a printable Adobe form is available here.

Utilities
Our city provides electric, water and sewer utility services.
For new service a completed application card, verification of ID, and a deposit for utility service is required prior to time services are needed. The residential deposit is $150, or $100 if a letter of good credit is provided by your previous utility provider. Commercial deposits are based on average past usage at the location or average for like business.
Direct Payments of utilities is available. Customers who sign up for direct payment will have their monthly bill debited from their bank account on the tenth of each month. They are also mailed a copy of the monthly bill from the city on the first day of each month for bookkeeping purposes. Enrollment forms are available at City Hall.
A Levelized Payment Program is also available, which allows customers to pay the same amount every month for a period of one year. No additional fees are charged to participate in the program. To be eligible, customers must have twelve months' payment history by October 1 and the customer's account must be paid in full each month by the due date for the entire prior year. The program begins on November 1st of each year. Customers must sign up to participate by October 1st. Please contact City Hall for more information and an enrollment form.
Trash service is contracted by the city through Gray County Disposal Service (620-846-2148) and billed with city utilities. Trash pickup is provided on Tuesday morning east of Main Street and on Friday morning west of Main Street.

Recycling Center is located at 104 S. Ash, open 24/7. More information is available here.
Hazardous Waste should be taken to Gray County Public Works at 915 North Main in Cimarron. This includes used oil, paint cans, chemicals, batteries, etc.
Compost Site is located 1/2 mile south and 1/2 mile east of the Main Street stop light. The public is encouraged to bring grass, leaves and tree branches to the compost site. Leaves and grass are placed in wind rows, watered and turned periodically to create compost. Tree limbs are chipped into wood mulch.
Finished compost and wood chips can be picked up for public use.
